ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Painting landscapes isn’t typical for me, but hiking and being in nature is one of the most important things I do, so I make them every now and then. It’s a way to express gratitude for two things that are so valuable to me: painting and walking in the woods.

This scene is special for a lot of reasons. I used one of my dad’s photographs as a reference. He’s the reason I started hiking and we’ve covered a lot of miles together. It’s on top of Gregory Bald which was one my first backpacking trips. The flame azaleas bloom in higher elevations in the Smoky Mountains right around my birthday in June. It’s a pretty good gift!
