ABOUT THIS ARTWORK

This piece is inspired by something I read in a book a therapist recommended about Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. The book is about helping people detach from their thoughts and feelings in order to make healthier decisions that aren’t reactive.

One of several examples it gives of how to practice detachment is, if you continue having the same argument with someone, imagine writing your words in icing on a cake. An absurd exercise to expose absurdity.

I love cake and I love painted wooden signs and I love learning how to communicate better and I love funny things, so this idea popped into my head immediately.
